4 kW Solar System

If you’re exploring renewable energy solutions, a 4 kW solar system can be an excellent investment for your home or business. With the capacity to generate approximately 13-20 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy daily, this system will fit the needs of the average American household. Let’s dive into the details to help you determine if a 4 kW solar system is right for you and explore your system options.

Is a 4 kW Solar System Right For Me?

A 4 kW solar system is perfect if:

  • Your property consumes around 500-600 kWh of electricity monthly.
  • You want to lower or eliminate your monthly electricity bill
  • You have enough space for a solar panel installation on your roof or property.
  • You’re looking to invest in energy independence and long-term savings.

This solar setup is a great fit for medium-sized homes, small shops, or agricultural operations with steady electricity use. If your system produces more energy than you consume, you might be able to send the surplus back to the grid through net metering, which can lower your utility bills or earn you credits.

4 kW Solar System Options

At Belmont Solar, we design and install solar systems customized to match your unique energy needs. Below are the three primary types of 4 kW solar setups we offer:

Grid-tie Solar Systems

Stay linked to the utility grid while cutting down on your dependence on conventional power sources.

Hybrid Solar Systems

Enjoy the advantages of both grid-tied and off-grid systems by adding battery storage for reliable backup power.

Off Grid Solar Systems

Ideal for remote properties or if achieving full energy independence is what you’re aiming for.

Each system is tailored to match your energy needs, site conditions, and financial plan.

Solar System Components

Gaining insight into the parts of a 4 kW solar system helps you understand how they function together to provide clean, reliable energy.

Solar Panels

Solar panels are the core of your system, capturing sunlight and turning it into clean energy. To generate around 500 to 600 kWh per month, you’ll typically need 10 to 14 high-efficiency panels, depending on your location and the wattage of each panel. At Belmont Solar, we use American-made panels and protect your investment with our Triple 10 Warranty.

Inverters

Inverters play a crucial role by transforming the direct current (DC) your solar panels produce into alternating current (AC), which powers the devices and appliances in your home. Today’s advanced inverters also offer real-time monitoring features, helping you track energy production and system efficiency. At Belmont Solar, we install trusted brands like Sol-Ark, SolarEdge, and Tesla to ensure reliable performance.

Meters

Smart meters keep track of how much electricity your grid-tied or hybrid solar system generates, as well as how much you consume or export to the utility grid. If you want to take advantage of net metering, having a smart meter is essential. To earn money through Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs), you’ll also need a production meter that measures your total solar output.

Batteries

Batteries are required for Off-Grid and Hybrid solar setups. In both cases, they store excess energy generated during the day to provide power at night. For Hybrid systems, the battery also serves as a backup source of electricity during outages, offering added security when the grid goes down.

Racking System

No matter if you choose a roof-mounted or ground-mounted solar system, a reliable racking structure is essential to secure your panels in place. At Belmont Solar, we use our own Tough Trac racking system, designed and built in-house for unmatched strength and durability. Tough Trac also features built-in wire management, setting it apart as a top-tier solution for clean, efficient solar installations.

Our Solar Panel Installation Process

To get started, give us a call or request a quote through our website. When you reach out, it’s helpful to have your address, a recent electricity bill, and an idea of your budget ready. This allows us to provide a more accurate estimate for the size and cost of your solar installation.

You’ll receive a free digital proposal outlining the details of your solar installation. This includes projected costs, an estimate of how long it will take to break even on your investment, and a preliminary timeline for the installation process. To move forward, all that’s needed is your electronic signature and an initial deposit.

Once the contract is signed, we’ll start coordinating with local authorities to ensure all necessary permits and paperwork are in place. After approvals are secured, our team will schedule a site visit and begin the installation process. When the system is fully installed, we’ll perform a thorough check to confirm it’s producing energy and operating as it should.

Solar Panel FAQ

A typical 4 kW solar system is built to last between 25 and 30 years. Most manufacturers ensure that their panels will maintain at least 90% of their original efficiency for up to 25 years. At Belmont Solar, we install high-quality American-made panels from Solar4America, which come with a 25-year limited product warranty. In addition, all of our installations are protected by Belmont’s Triple Ten Warranty, covering workmanship, system components, and energy production for 10 years.

Solar panels primarily generate electricity from direct sunlight, but they’re also capable of using diffused or indirect light, like what you get on cloudy days. While their output won’t match the levels seen on bright, sunny days, they will still continue to produce electricity even when the sky is overcast.

  • Renewable Energy Source: Solar energy comes from the sun, an unlimited natural resource that won’t run out, making it one of the most reliable and sustainable forms of power available.
  • Reduced Electricity Costs: Producing your own electricity allows you to cut down significantly on your monthly utility bills, and in some cases, eliminate them entirely.
  • Environmental Benefit: Because solar systems don’t rely on fossil fuels, they generate power without releasing carbon emissions or other pollutants into the environment.
  • Increased Home Value: Zillow data shows that installing solar panels can raise a home’s resale value in Pennsylvania by as much as 4.1%, making it a smart financial investment as well as an energy upgrade.

If you install a grid-tied or hybrid solar system at home, you can take advantage of net metering by sending unused electricity back to the utility grid. When your system produces more power than you use, those extra kilowatt-hours earn you credits. These credits are then applied to future energy usage from the grid, helping reduce your overall utility costs.
