Who is Belmont Solar?

Belmont Solar began in 2002 when founder Ben Zook combined solar panels with batteries to create an off-grid power supply. An experienced electrician who is certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), Ben and Belmont Solar have since grown to provide clean power to families across the Mid-Atlantic area. Belmont Solar’s expansion includes the acquisition of Tough Trac, a leading designer and manufacturer of solar panel mounting systems, and partnerships with Solar for America, Sol-Ark, and Tesla.

Meet The Expert — Ben Zook, Solar Panel System Designer and Owner at Belmont Solar 

Ben Zook is the founder, owner, and NABCEP Certified Master Electrician at Belmont Solar. A lifetime fan of electricity, Ben began working for an electrical contractor at 17. While spending his spare time building electrical circuits at home, he became fascinated with the potential of combining solar panels with batteries to create a completely off-the-grid power supply. This passion, combined with a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, allowed him to start Belmont Solar in 2002. 

Ben specializes in solar installation, including grid-tied, off-grid, and solar battery backup systems. With a solid commitment to good work and good customer relationships, reflected in the Belmont Solar motto “From Workmanship to Friendship,” Ben provides expert insights on solar technology, energy independence, battery storage, and the future of renewable energy.
