Solar Power World is a premier media outlet for the U.S. solar market. Its annual Top Solar Contractor List includes hundreds of solar contractors and developers in the United States. This list is categorized by state, service, and market based on each company’s kilowatt capacity installed in the previous year, meaning that the rankings are determined by actual installation capacity.

Belmont Solar was recognized for installing 867.7kW in 2025, in Pennsylvania, and as a residential and commercial installer. Overall, this year, Solar Power World reports that the U.S. Solar Industry has surpassed 6 million individual installations.

What This Recognition Means for Homeowners

Awards like these celebrate the solar companies that put in the work and have tons of expertise in their specific sector. Solar companies that show up on these lists every year are teams capable of navigating permits, utilities, installation challenges, and the growing cost hardships that come with clean energy projects.

A team that can build a reputation over time as a go-to solar installer, and one that invests time and resources into educating its community and sharing the power of solar, is one capable of continuing to grow its installation capacity.

For Zook, the lists are “one more indication that we are actively trying and mostly succeeding in sharing the joy of solar power.” One of Belmont Solar’s primary goals is to help educate its community about how solar energy can benefit families and communities.

Guided by the principles of “workmanship, trust, and friendship”, Belmont Solar seeks to help Pennsylvania residents understand their energy options, navigate their energy obstacles, and ultimately take ownership of their own energy production.

More Than 20 Years of Helping Pennsylvania Families Go Solar

Belmont Solar was founded in 2002 when owner Ben Zook combined solar panels with batteries to create an off-grid power supply. From there, Ben became North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) certified, and Belmont Solar expanded to acquire Tough Trac, a leading designer and manufacturer of solar panel mounting systems, as well as partner with Solar for America, Sol-Ark, and Tesla.

Today, Belmont Solar is still a locally owned and operated business that continues to provide solar solutions to its customers across Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Looking Ahead: Continuing to Grow Solar in Pennsylvania

As the industry continues to grow and adjust to new energy and policy challenges, the future remains bright at Belmont Solar. Education remains a top priority as the team seeks to challenge objections to solar energy. According to Zook:

“There are a lot of misconceptions and old, outdated information that create a psychological barrier. People are not aware of what can be done; solar, large-scale or small-scale, is such a big plus.”

Looking to the future, Zook remains optimistic about the continued growth of renewable energy: “Using solar power is a lot like planting a tree. The best time was 20 years ago; the second-best time is today.

At Belmont Solar, we’re honored by this recognition and grateful for the community that we get to work in. We’re excited to see what we will build next. If you’re interested in what solar power can do for you, reach out for a free quote today.
