About The Build:

In 2020, a family in Birmingham Township near West Chester partnered with Belmont Solar to turn their solar-powered house into a true Net Zero Home. Motivated by concern for the planet and a desire for financial stability, they wanted to shrink their carbon footprint and lower monthly expenses—especially after living through uncertain times like the 2008 recession and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their journey began in 2010 with a 2.4-kilowatt solar system. Ten years later, that system has prevented over 433,000 pounds of carbon emissions and provided steady financial returns, shielded from volatile energy markets. Their story is one of many, and you can do the same. With solar and a few smart energy choices, you can build a cleaner future while lowering your monthly energy bill from the utility company.

When asked about the impact of going net zero, this homeowner explained:

“I see my solar system as a 401K plan. This plan pays me on a monthly basis through my utility bill and through the SREC payments a couple of times per year. The solar system readies me for my retirement by reducing my monthly bills and gives us power security with the planned battery backup.”
